We got robbed by a bear.

The thief.
Our RV is on the left.

Back in 2015 on our way to Alaska, we stopped at a little RV park somewhere between Banff and Jasper Alberta to spend a few days.  While there ,we did many fun things, but by far my favorite story was the day we got robbed, by a bear.

No, I'm serious! We were out for the day exploring the area, and we decided to leave our grill and a bucket full of stuff outside for the day.  Well, when we pulled into the RV park we were very confused to see our grill knocked over and the contents of our bucket spewed everywhere.
My brother went over to start cleaning up, figuring that he must've set the grill up wrong so it collapsed, and maybe the wind blew the bucket over. That's when we realized things weren't quite right. You see, in our bucket we had two very large and heavy metal grill plates, much too heavy for the wind or a raccoon to knock over.  Also, our grill brush and some other little items were nowhere to be seen.

My brother came over to us and announced that we had been robbed, and that one of the other campers must've taken our stuff.   But alas, this theory too was quickly dissolved, for if they wished to rob us wouldn't they have taken the grill or the propane?  Maybe they took small things hoping we wouldn't notice, but then again, if that was the case they wouldn't have left our stuff spewed everywhere would they?

And that is when my mom posed the question, "what if it was a bear?" this was quickly laughed off, Sure we had been warned that there were bears in the area but what would a bear want with a bucket full of camping gear?

Well we went to sleep that night with our question unanswered wondering what happened. The next morning we were getting ready to head out for another day of hiking, when our neighbor approached us.  I don't remember exactly what she said but I'm sure it started with " your not going to believe this but..."

As it turns out, while we were out for the day, a young grizzly bear came sauntering into camp.
All the campers who were around, including our neighbor, all gathered outside to watch as the young bear walked straight to our campsite.  After much sniffing around trying to locate where the lingering smell of bacon was coming from, proceeded to pry the lid off of our bucket, dump the contents out, throwing items everywhere like a small child.   I'm not quite sure where he took our grill brush but we never found it.(when I heard this I couldn't help but picture pooh bear sitting outside our RV trying to open a jar of honey)

After awhile, the bear couldn't find the delicious snack it was looking for, so it decided to go check with the neighbors to see if they had left any food out.  After looking around for awhile and rummaging thru a few trash bins, the bear returned to the woods leaving behind a bunch of tourists with a story worth writing home about.

After hearing about what happened, we had a good laugh at the absurdity of it all, and decided to take the "bears in area" signs a bit more seriously.
